Licha Drops the Mask: Martínez Exposes United's Rotten Core, But the Dressing Room Isn't Innocent

"You keep changing managers but what about other areas?" That is not a throwaway remark. It is a defender looking past the touchline and pointing at the people upstairs.

Lisandro Martínez has never been a man who hides in the tackle. Now he has stopped hiding in interviews too.

When a senior player at Manchester United says the performance was "really poor" and admits he has to "control myself a lot," you are hearing a dressing room on the edge. His line that it is "sometimes a reflection in the mirror of our club at this moment" should be pinned to the wall at Carrington, and in the boardroom, for good measure.

The Real Bombshell

The sentence that matters came via Fabrizio Romano: "You keep changing managers but what about other areas?" That is not a throwaway remark. It is a defender looking past the touchline and pointing at the people upstairs.

He went further, saying he expects more from the technical director and warning that if nothing changes, next season "it's a big problem." Players rarely say this publicly unless the private conversations have gone nowhere.

Then came the dagger. Asked whether Michael Carrick was backed properly, Martínez replied: "I don't think so. He did his best." He added that he expected more investment in the summer.

Read that again. A World Cup winner is saying, on the record, that the man who tried to steady the ship was left short of tools.

A Club Addicted to Sacking Managers

For years the pattern has been the same. Managers arrive with a vision, get a squad assembled by committee, and are dismissed when it falls apart. Then the next one arrives, and the cycle restarts.

Martínez has named what supporters have shouted for a decade: the manager is the most visible part of the problem, not the root of it. Who signs off recruitment? Who decides the summer was "enough"? Who is accountable when it isn't? Those questions keep drifting upwards and never seem to land on anyone.

Reinforcements are not a luxury at a club of this size. They are the job. If a player this loyal to the badge feels let down, how must the rest of the dressing room feel?

But Licha, Look Around You

Here is where we have to be fair, because Nisty Football does not do one-sided noise.

The same players who are now asking for more from the executives are the ones who showed what this team can do in the second half of last season. That form was not built on a 20-man transfer window. It was built on intensity, belief and players running for each other.

So where did it go?

Investment, or the lack of it, explains a ceiling. It does not explain a collapse in effort and standards. No technical director can make you win your duels, hold your shape or show up with the same fire you had six months ago. Martínez himself called the display "really poor." If the players know it, they own it.

It is easy, to borrow his own words, to say coach, players, and then ignore everyone else. But the reverse is also true. Blaming the boardroom cannot become the alibi for a squad that stopped delivering.

The Verdict

Martínez has lit the fuse, and the people in charge cannot ignore it. A player with his standing calling out the structure is a signal that confidence in leadership is eroding from the inside.

But the dressing room must answer too. Fix the structure upstairs, yes. Demand the investment, absolutely. But the shirt does not care about excuses, and the fans certainly do not.

Until both sides take responsibility, United will keep living the mirror image Martínez described: a club reflecting its own dysfunction, one poor performance at a time.
