Lamine Yamal Joins Barcelona’s Captaincy Group.
Lamine Yamal is set to take on an even bigger leadership role at Barcelona this season after being added to the club’s captaincy group.
The decision was made by head coach Hansi Flick, with the players also voting in favour of Yamal’s inclusion.
At just 19, Yamal is already one of the most important figures in Barcelona’s squad, and the move shows just how much trust the club has placed in the young winger.
For Barcelona, this is more than simply handing a player an armband. It is a statement about the club’s future and Yamal is clearly at the centre of that future.
His influence on the pitch has grown rapidly, but now comes a different challenge, leadership.
Being a captain at Barcelona carries serious weight. It means representing the dressing room, dealing with pressure, setting standards and, sometimes, speaking when the team needs a voice.
And that is where the debate begins.
Is Lamine Yamal genuinely ready to lead Barcelona at this level, or has the club moved too quickly because of his extraordinary talent?
Some will argue that leadership has nothing to do with age. Others will wonder whether Barcelona are putting too much responsibility on the shoulders of a player who is still developing himself.
Either way, one thing is clear, Barcelona are not just building their team around Lamine Yamal anymore, they appear to be building their leadership future around him too.
The question is, has Yamal earned the captaincy, or has his superstar status earned it for him?
