BREAKING: BETIS STUN MOURINHO’S REAL MADRID AS TROY PARROTT FIRES HOME WINNER!

Real Betis 1–0 Real Madrid LaLiga – Matchday 4 | Estadio La Cartuja, Seville | September 4, 2026

Real Madrid have suffered their first defeat of the season under José Mourinho, falling to a dramatic 1–0 loss against Real Betis in Seville.

And the hero of the night is Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott.

Parrott came off the bench and struck the decisive goal in the 80th minute, reacting quickest after Thibaut Courtois had produced a superb save from a Nelson Deossa header. The Irishman pounced on the rebound from close range to send Betis into wild celebrations.

Real Madrid had chances to change the outcome. Vinícius Júnior hit the post, Dean Huijsen rattled the crossbar, while Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham were unable to convert their opportunities.

Then came late drama.

Carlos Espí appeared to rescue Madrid with a spectacular overhead kick, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. In stoppage time, Madrid were awarded a penalty after a challenge on Vinícius — but Mbappé’s spot-kick was saved by Álvaro Vallés.

Despite Madrid controlling much of the possession and creating the clearer chances, Betis showed tremendous resilience to hold on for a famous victory.

For Mourinho, it is a first setback of the new LaLiga campaign after Madrid had opened the season with three straight victories.

For Parrott and Betis, however, this is a night to remember.
